Crane Services

Crane inspections and certifications are mandatory under the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations. Guidelines for these inspections are provided in these regulations as well as a number of CSA and ASTM codes and standards.

fga has provided crane services for boom trucks, mobile cranes, and overhead cranes, to a variety of clients throughout this province as well as Quebec. These services include:

• general inspection of the main structural components,
• visual and NDT inspection of the critical joints, lifting hook, and the boom structure,
• visual inspection of the blocks, sheaves, and wire ropes,
• acoustic emission monitoring of fibre-reinforced-plastic (FRP) booms,
• recommendations for repairs,
• load testing, and
• certification.

In addition, we have conducted complete crane safety auditing for IOC, which included a review of internal policies as they relate to current standards, lifting procedures, lifting gear maintenance, and staff training in Labrador and Quebec.

fga also provides design, inspections, and load testing services for lifting sets, spreader beams, pad eyes, frames, containers, and man baskets. These are in accordance with applicable CSA standards as well as DNV or Lloyds, or other project-specific standards for offshore work.

All inspections are conducted by competent technicians, certified to CWB for welding inspections and trained in non-destructive testing, and under the direct supervision of a qualified Professional Engineer, as required by CSA Z150.

• Iron Ore Company of Canada - full crane safety audit including personnel.
• Capital Crane - numberous mobile crane inspections, spreader beans and lifting sets.
• Mcnamara Construction - Lifting Procedure, spreader beams and lifting sets.
• North Atlantic Refinery - Lifting Procedures.
• PCSL - Load testing 1200 ton mobile crane by Mammoet.
• Brown Offshore Ltd. - Three interior and one exterior overhead crane certifications.
