Structural/Civil Engineering

fga's Structural Engineering Department provides engineering services in virtually all aspects of the Civil discipline including marine structures, major earth works, site layout, highways, roads, feasibility studies, water and sewer systems. We provide design and analysis for all types of structures including industrial buildings, stadium/convention centres, office buildings, commercial and warehouse facilities, schools, churches, highway and pedestrian bridges, chimneys, tanks and standpipes, pressure vessels, wharves and breakwaters, roofing systems, navigation towers and fall arrest systems.

fga's Structural Engineering Department has been a major participant in the oil and gas industry on projects that include the Hibernia, Terra Nova, Sable Island, and White Rose projects that are located offshore Newfoundland and Labrador, and Nova Scotia. For the offshore industry we have designed large industrial buildings; offshore shipping containers; flare booms; jump and slipforming concrete formwork systems; module support, loadout and transport; and ongoing maintenance design solutions.

The engineering design process includes the utilization of up-to-date in-house and purchased computer software, enabling three dimensional modelling of and size or shaped buildings, with a wide range of construction materials including structural steel, aluminium, plain, reinforced and precast concrete, timber, masonry, and fibre reinforced composites.

In addition, we provide technical services for shop drawing preparation, connection design and detailing, as well as structural steel inspection services. fga's Structural Engineering Department has provided civil engineering services to many clients including numerous municipalities, Provincial and Federal Governments. The civil projects have varied from water and sewer design to flood damage assessment and control.
